Prof. LUO Visited EPFL for Academic Communications and Collaborations

On September 26th to 27th, 2014, Prof. Qingming Luo, the Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the Executive Deputy Director of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO), headed a delegation to visit ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FÉDÉRALE DE LAUSANNE (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, EPFL) for academic communications and collaborations.

On 26th, Prof. Luo met with Andreas MORTENSEN, Vice-provost for Research of EPFL, and Stéphane DECOUTÈRE, Head of External Affairs to the EPFL President, discussing the collaborations of scientific researches and talent cultivations between HUST and EPFL. The two sides agreed on the basic cooperation framework in the meeting.

Later, Prof. Luo and his delegation visited the Blue Brain Project in EPFL, who displayed their research progress to their visitors, especially the achievements of reconstructing the connectivity map of the whole mouse brain based on the image sets obtained using MOST technique from Prof. Luo’s VBN team. Henry MARKARM, Chief Director of the Blue Brain Project of EPFL, had in-depth talk with Prof. Luo, discussing the ongoing academic collaborations between the two research teams and agreeing on further strengthening the existing cooperation of MOST and Blue Brain Project.

Prof. Luo and his delegation also visited Prof. Michael GRATZEL and his lab, who has kept long-term academic collaborations with WNLO and just cooperatively published one paper on SCIENCE in 2014.

On 27th, the delegation paid a visit to Miss Ru Xi, the Educational Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Swiss.
